A note from the founder

I started this from a keyboard on Adelaide Street.

Hey — I’m Marcus, and IronQuestKingdom began in 2016 as a Google Doc where I dumped 40-page notes on every RPG I finished. Friends kept asking for the doc, so I turned it into a blog above a coffee shop on Adelaide Street West.

We don’t take publisher money for scores and we don’t review a game until we’ve rolled credits. That means our verdicts land a little later than the big outlets, but you get the full picture: the pacing dip at hour 30, the build that trivializes the final boss, whether the DLC is worth your $34.99.

Today a small crew of writers in the Entertainment District keeps the lights on. If a game respects your time, we’ll tell you. If it wastes it, we’ll tell you that too.

How we play

Every review earns its verdict the hard way.

A four-step process we run on every title before a single score goes live. No day-one hot takes, no review copies traded for coverage.

  1. 01

    Roll credits, no shortcuts

We finish the main campaign before writing a word — usually 30 to 90 hours. Difficulty is set to the developer’s intended default so the experience matches yours.

  2. 02

Log the data as we go

Frame drops, load times, quest bugs, and balance spikes get timestamped in a shared sheet. Screenshots and clips back every claim we make in the final write-up.

  3. 03

    Second-run the tough calls

Contentious scores get a second player. If two of us disagree on whether a boss is fair or cheap, we replay that encounter until we can defend the verdict.

  4. 04

    Publish with the receipts

Final reviews ship with playtime, platform tested, patch version, and a clear "worth the price?" line — plus a spoiler-free section up top for the undecided.

Your boss guide for the Cinder Warden saved my run. I’d bounced off it for a week — beat it in two tries after reading the stagger-timing section.

I trust this blog more than any 9/10 on the front pages. They flagged the hour-40 pacing slump in Ember Dynasty and they were dead right.

The "worth the price?" line at the top of every review is the only reason I stopped buying broken day-one ports. Saved me at least $200 last year.
